like the main page says, this site is devoted to my shiny pokemon collection. my personal neocities with a bunch of other interests (including those of the pokemon variety!) can be found here! but if you're only interested in my shiny hunting experience...
...hi! my name is jamie! i use she/her pronouns and i am an adult (25+). i am a total pokemaniac, but i suppose that much is obvious!
i've been an avid shiny hunter since generation 6 of the pokemon games was the current gen, though i did scattered shiny hunts here-and-there prior to picking up shiny hunting in earnest. my very first intentional shiny hunt was via the pokeradar, with shinx as my target. i took that on when gen4 was the current gen, and, through a whole lot of trial and error, i managed to catch one. i still remember how tense the chaining process was, even though it's been so many years since then! i named that shiny shinx 'crescendo' and raised him up into a luxray, taking him along for my journey through diamond version. he's still with me in pokemon home to this day.
crescendo wasn't my first shiny pokemon, though. i knew about shinies thanks to an experience i had in generation 3. as a little kid playing sapphire, i randomly ran into a mysteriously blue shuppet right outside of lilycove. in my excitement, i named her 'BLUE ONE'... and she also became a staple member of my team! even after i evolved her into a banette, the name stuck... and, much like luxray, BLUE ONE is still hanging out with me in pokemon home.
years passed, and i didn't really do too many shiny hunts... until i learnt about chain fishing in gen6. then i went kind of wild. i also went wild when i learnt about the masuda method - also in this gen - as my friends and i began dabbling in raising pokemon with specific iv spreads. however, i only started properly recording my shiny hunts in gen7, detailing how many eggs certain masuda method hunts took on my tumblr blog. i dabbled in some sos encounter hunts as well.
what really changed my approach to shiny hunting was my very first full odds hunt. for a long, long time, i was way too intimidated to try a full odds hunt out. but one day, i was writing a post about totodile's sprite changes throughout the years, and i was utterly fascinated by how different the gen2 shiny totodile sprite was compared to the others. like, truly. since totodile is my favourite starter pokemon, i decided i'd try for a full odds starter in crystal version. the rest is, as they say, history. i met ANCHOR the totodile after around 4600 encounters. at the time, i told myself that i'd never do another full odds shiny hunt... but that ended up being totally untrue, haha! it's safe to say that ANCHOR really changed my life.
since then, i've done tons of shiny hunts. i love every single means of running into shiny pokemon and have tried my hand at tons and tons of different approaches. i've taken on badge quests and sought out themed shiny teams. i've done rng manipulation to get shiny pokemon to ribbon master, i've biked back and forth with a slugma to hatch a shiny at full odds, i've popped shiny power sandwiches and i've been ensnared in various professors' labs for days on end. it's all been so fun, and i absolutely love sharing the experience with others and writing long posts about my hunts. i made shinybox specifically because i wanted to give each and every one of my shiny pokemon a spotlight. i adore all of my pokemon, whether they're shiny or not - but keeping a record of the hunts associated with my quest for various shinies is pretty important to me. the site name is after the pc box that i always name 'shiny' across pokemon games, which my shiny pokemon have a tendency to eventually find a home in, haha.
